The Association for the Advancement of Higher Education and Development (AHEAD) was registered in 2004 as a non-governmental organization to play a key role in development. Since inception, AHEAD has been implementing a range of programs in higher education, leadership and youth development. It has successfully launched a number of regional initiatives that incorporate these aims by strengthening the voices of diverse stakeholders from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Notable among these programs is the Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP) launched in 2001 for which AHEAD is the Uganda-based International Partner. IFP is a global network which operates in 22 countries across the world, including Uganda.
