ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE FORD FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAM (IFP)

The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP) is inviting applications for scholarships for Masters degrees tenable in the 2011/2012 academic year.

The seventeen fellowships awarded in Uganda provide opportunities for advanced study to exceptional individuals who will use this education to become leaders in their respective fields, furthering development in their own countries and greater economic and social justice worldwide. The International Fellowships Program, launched in 2001, is supported by the Ford Foundation and administered in Uganda by the Association for the Advancement of Higher Education and Development (AHEAD).

IFP provides full support of up to three (3) years of formal postgraduate study leading to the award of a Masters degree locally or abroad. The program provides opportunities to individuals from diverse backgrounds, social groups and communities that have traditionally lacked access to higher education.

Fellows are selected on the strength of their academic achievement, leadership skills and social commitment.

The proposed course of study should contribute towards meeting the Ford Foundation goals of strengthening democratic values, promoting international cooperation, reducing poverty and injustice and advancing human achievement. Eligible fields range across the natural and social sciences as well as the humanities and arts and should be aimed at addressing social injustices and meeting todays array of global challenges.

To be eligible for the IFP program, each applicant must: be a resident citizen or official resident of Uganda; hold an honors degree to apply for a Masters fellowship; have demonstrated leadership and commitment to the community as evidenced in professional or academic career; and have significant relevant professional experience related to proposed field of study, of not less than three (3) years.
